1. Passport
Validity: Must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Nepal. Immigration officers check this carefully.
Blank pages: At least one blank page is required for visa stamps. If your passport is nearly full, renew it before traveling.
Tip: Keep a photocopy or digital copy of your passport in case of loss during trekking.
2. Tourist Visa
Who needs it? Almost all foreign nationals, except Indian citizens.

Where to get it:
On Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) or official land border points.
In advance from a Nepali embassy/consulate abroad.
Special case: Indian nationals only need a valid government-issued ID (passport not mandatory).
3. Visa Application Essentials
Passport-size photo: Required for the visa form. Carry at least 2–3 spares for trekking permits too.
Visa fee: Payable in USD or convertible foreign currency. At Kathmandu airport, international credit cards are accepted, but at land borders cash is safer.
Online visa form: Fill it out within 15 days before arrival. This speeds up immigration since you’ll only need to show the barcode confirmation.
4. Additional Documents
Return/onward flight ticket: Immigration may ask to see proof you’ll leave Nepal within your visa period.
Proof of accommodation: A hotel booking or trekking agency confirmation helps smooth entry.
Travel insurance: Strongly recommended — especially for trekking. It should cover medical emergencies, evacuation, and high-altitude risks.
5. Practical Entry Flow
Arrival: Present your passport at immigration.
Visa process: Fill out the visa form (online pre-fill saves time), submit your photo, and pay the fee.
Stamping: Immigration stamps your visa with the duration you paid for.
Checks: Officers may ask for flight tickets or hotel bookings.
Exit: Keep your visa slip safe — you’ll need it when leaving Nepal.
Important Notes
Overstay penalties: If you stay beyond your visa, you’ll pay fines and may face restrictions. Extensions are available at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu.
Health certificates: If arriving from Yellow Fever–affected countries, you must show a vaccination certificate.
Cash vs. card: Always carry some USD cash for border crossings where card machines may not work.
