Yala Peak (5,732 meters) is a relatively accessible peak located just north of Kathmandu in the picturesque Langtang Valley region of Nepal. Its natural beauty is unparalleled, blending seamlessly with cultural richness. The Langtang region boasts over seventy glaciers of varying sizes, along with the Langtang and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges and high-altitude lakes like Gosainkunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda, and Dudhkunda.
The dominant ethnic group in this area is the Tibetan-origin Tamang community. Their traditional stone houses, intricately carved wooden balconies, distinctive attire, and craftsmanship reflect the rich Himalayan heritage. The Langtang Lirung (7,245 meters), the highest peak in the region, looms approximately 30 kilometers north of Kathmandu.
As you ascend toward Yala Peak, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Lantang Lirung (7,246 meters), Lenpo Gang (7,083 meters), Dorje Lakpa (6,990 meters), and the formidable Shishapangma (8,027 meters) on the Tibetan side. The base camp for Yala Peak Climbing is situated at Kyangjin Gompa (3,749 meters or 12,300 feet), while the high camp is at 4,800 meters. The final 400 meters involve icy terrain, so climbers use crampons, ice axes, and ropes for safety. After the Yala Peak ascent, the return journey takes you back to Dhunche via Syabrubesi, followed by a drive to Kathmandu.
