Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, straddles the border between Nepal and the Autonomous Region of Tibet. It stands within the Mahalangur Himalayan range at an elevation of 8,848 meters above sea level. Everest is flanked by other stunning mountains, including Mount Lhotse (8,516 meters), Mount Nuptse (7,855 meters), and Mount Changtse (7,550 meters).
The historic ascent of Mt. Everest occurred on May 29, 1953, when Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal reached the summit. In 1975, Japanese climber Ms. Junko Tabei attempted the summit via the southeast ridge route.
