Journey Overview

Journey across the heart of Japan on this eleven day route that moves from ancient temples to a nuclear age memorial, an active volcanic peak, and one of the most electric cities on earth!

Walk beneath the red torii gates of Fushimi Inari, stand before the golden pavilion of Kinkakuji, and wander the bamboo groves of Arashiyama before Kyoto gives way to Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park and the sacred torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine rising from the sea. From there, the journey climbs toward Mt Fuji before descending into Tokyo, where Disney Sea, Tokyo Tower, Akihabara, and a river cruise to Odaiba bring the trip to a close in the middle of Japan's neon future.

This is Japan across its full spectrum, sacred and industrial, ancient and futuristic, moving by bullet train through a country that rewards travelers who want to see it all.

Frequently asked journey queries

  • A Japan visa is required for Nepali travelers.

  • There's no direct flight from Kathmandu to Japan, so China Southern routes through Guangzhou on both the outbound and return legs.

  • The trip includes a short hike near Mt Fuji and a fair amount of walking at temple complexes, shrines, and city districts like Asakusa and Akihabara. None of it is strenuous, but comfortable walking shoes are recommended throughout.

Travelling through the old kingdom of Lo felt like stepping back five centuries. Permits, jeeps and homestays all just worked.

The turquoise lakes and the view from Gokyo Ri beat anything I have seen in the Alps. Flawless logistics from airport to airport.

Rhinos at dawn from a dugout canoe — unforgettable. Lodges were simple but spotless, and our naturalist guide was superb.

We expected a trek. What we got was a story we are still telling months later. The team felt like family by day three.
