This is the alternative route for the classic Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek which, instead of taking you to the North Base Camp of the Kanchenjunga first, takes you to the South BC before the North.

A long trek in the wilderness of the remote Northeastern mountainside of Nepal around the third highest mountain in the world- the Kanchenjunga."Kanchenjunga" translates to "Five Great Treasure Houses of the High Snow"- in reference to the massif's five peaks. This trek covers both the North and South base camps of Kanchenjunga and offers spectacular views of the massif and surrounding mountains. Not as popular and less frequented compared to the Everest and Annapurna circuit treks, the Kanchenjunga circuit trek is regarded as a complete Nepali experience that spans a large area relatively untouched by modernization. Charming little Rai, Tamang and Magar villages dot the Southern areas of the trek, while mostly Sherpa villages adorn the North.

The moutains you will see along the trail: The five peaks of Kanchenjunga (Main- 8586m, West- 8505m, Central- 8482m, South- 8494m, Kangbachen-7903m), the Kabru mountains (all of which are 7000m+), and numerous other smaller peaks. The trek starts at Suketar Airport, to the Southwest of the mountain, and climbs up slowly, allowing for acclimatization. The trek takes you to Okhtang near the Southern base camp for spectacular views of the Southern face of Kanchenjunga.

The trek can be completed in fewer or more days depending on your ability and preference.

Teahouse treks are available but don't expect luxury. Tented trips are much more comfortable. For further information about all your options, contact us by email.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 2 Namaste Kathmandu.

    • Kathmandu, the capital city, boasts an intense mix of cultures and religions unique to Nepal. Turn the Buddhist prayer wheels at Swoyambhu- the monkey temple, and meet the steady gaze of the Buddha's eyes at the famous Boudhanath stupa. Experience the valley's olden days at the Kathmandu Durbar Square- which has remained authentic even as modernization has crept in all around it. See Kathmandu, with your AdvoutTM guide.
  • Day 3 Biratnagar.

    • Today you fly to Biratnagar, where flights to Suketar take off early in the morning. You may have time to see a few sights in Kathmandu before your flight.
  • Day 4 A hair raising flight to Suketar

    • An unpaved runway on top of a tall hill to take your breath away. Makes for an interesting landing video for the so-inclined. Consult with your team and start trekking today or wait until the next day.
  • Day 5-11 The trek to Okhtang

    • Watch out for leeches days 05 to 08 in case of rainfall. Salt kills leeches easy A saline solution poured liberally on your feet might help. The vegetation gets more scarce everyday as you climb up along the trail.
On Day 10 you drink in the amazing sights from Okhtang, near the Southern Base Camp. Assuming good weather, you may have a chance to camp around Okhtang today, or to go back to Ramche.
